Social Insurance Department, Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance
This was one of the largest IT projects to be awarded at the time by the Cyprus Government. The Social Insurance Department handles the data of more than 360.000 insured persons and manages funds of over €4,6 billion, with annual receipts and expenditures of over €980 million and €650 million respectively (2004 figures). The initial project delivered by NetU with the support of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) involved the design, development and implementation of an integrated system to support the entire administration of the Social Insurance Department including registrations, collection of insurance contributions, management of inspectors’ visits, prosecution for non-payment and fraud, assessment and payment of unemployment, sickness & child support and related benefits, assessment and payment of marriage, holiday & death grants, retirement & widows and invalidity pensions, reciprocal agreements with other countries and payments to beneficiaries abroad, reconciliation of revenues, payments and accountancy functions and statistical analysis to support future policy decisions. Since the project’s acceptance from the Cyprus Government, NetU has also provided the Government with over 60 man-years of operational support services.

The success of the initial system led to the award to NetU of a number of follow-up projects including the migration of the system to a Web-based architecture and the development of a module to allow the on-line payment of Social Insurance contributions by employers.
